When: Saturday at 1 p.m.
Last: First meeting
Last week: Lake Park 27, Larkin 18; Bishop McNamara 56, Lake Forest Academy 28
Outlook: The Royals look to return to their winning ways in a nonconference Saturday matinee in Lake Forest. Getting a win against the Caxys means stopping their spread offense, the first full spread attack Larkin has faced this season. Lake Forest Academy does not use a tight end, preferring to line up in the shotgun and throw the ball the vast majority of the time. That spread attack will test the entire defense from the secondary to the defensive line, which needs to put a rush on senior quarterback Cole Moore to keep him from connecting with sophomore receiver Charles Harris, his favorite target. "We'd better (get a rush) because their quarterback has a really good arm and can make some big plays," Larkin coach Matt Gehrig said. "If our secondary does what they've been coached to do, this could be an opportunity to make some plays on the ball for sure. They'll probably throw the ball 75 percent of the time." The Royals have a legitimate running threat in senior Jalen Williams, the area's rushing leader with 424 yards and 5 touchdowns on 78 carries (5.4 avg.). Sophomore quarterback Kyle Newquist has completed 24-of-49 passes for 346 yards and 3 touchdowns against 4 interceptions.
