Herald should crack down on corruption
Can you hear it? The sound of contradiction howling in the Daily Herald. First, we should be grateful. Bless you, brother Quinn, for listening to campaign reformists and vetoing the "landmark plan," and then DH states, "Right now, we have nothing. And that is untenable."
Noise is just that, noise. Defeating campaign reform legislation is something to feel good about!!! I would feel much better if the DH chastised each individual who passed the bad reform plan. The pols are laughing and smiling at the wisdom of publicists. The corrupt Congressional representatives won. We are right back where we started from, outsmarted by the devilish tactics of Springfield pundits. Worse, the DH helped them to maintain the "awful system." Who allowed the awful system to exist? Who allowed the awful system to grow? Who allowed the awful system to become harmful? Newspapers can be preventive rather than reactionary.
Our Congressional leaders must truly believe the voters of Illinois are stupid. The corruption in the campaign donation process has devastated the trust and confidence in our legislators and leaders. What's new? Ryan in prison and Blago impeached. Please Daily Herald, I urge you to place your investigations in the right ring.
Expose the corrupt individuals, not just the corruption. Name the perpetrators. If this issue is that important for the voters, then keep naming them over and over. Publish the list every day. If Illinoisans truly want to rid the state of corruption, then they need to be provided with meaningful reporting of who is behind the corruption. Corruption without faces and names has no identity. The DH, along with other news media, can be influential when they present verifiable facts on who the "bad guys" are.
It's time to draw a permanent line on tolerance for corruptive policies and practices. Who am I to judge your journalism? Someone who relies on the news and "Opinion's" you share with your paying readers, and cares about the direction our state is headed. Get in the ring and fight, and together we can topple the corrupt individuals, who slice up the campaign fund pie.
