Student hands out bullets at Batavia bus stop
Police will not pursue charges against a functionally-challenged student who gave some old bullets to students waiting for a Rotolo Middle School bus.
The nine bullets obtained by the three students from the handicapped child were confiscated by school officials when the students arrived at school Wednesday, Batavia Police Deputy Chief Greg Thrun said.
Thrun said the names of the students involved will not be released because of their ages.
The functionally-challenged student handed the bullets to other students at a school bus stop, Thrun said. Police said there was no gun and no criminal intent.
"Bottom line, the functionally-challenged student never understood what he had," Thrun said. "He said he found them and took them thinking they were neat. We are still investigating to determine where the bullets came from."
Thrum said police believe the bullets were from an older weapon - possibly from the World War II era - and were no longer functioning.
