Scouting: Elk Grove @ Conant
Elk Grove (2-1) at Conant (1-2)
When 6:30 p.m. today at Charles O. Feutz Field
Last week Elk Grove d. Hoffman Estates 48-7; Conant lost to Prospect 41-21
Outlook First-year Elk Grove coach Brian Doll is learning more about the local rivalry from his team, which already has more points (97) than all of last season and has been fueled by a plus-9 turnover ratio. QB Nick Meyer and RB Mike Wary controlled things on the ground last week and LB Kyle Pfister has been a defensive force. "They fly around pretty good and they have some weapons on offense," said Conant coach Bill Modelski. "Our theme right now is 'it's about us.' We need to take care of ourselves first, then worry about our opponents." Modelski wasn't happy with last week's effort which resulted in a 28-0 deficit just after halftime but LB Nolan Drake played well and OL Kenny Kalish had his best game in leading the way for Kyle Klosowicz and Cordell Clark. "Conant is a very large team up front but I'm very impressed with (Klosowicz)," Doll said. "He is what makes them go." Conant won 20-13 last year and leads the series 19-17.
