Taguchi joins Cubs outfielders

The Cubs today picked up the contract of outfielder So Taguchi from Triple-A Iowa in time for tonight's game at Wrigley Field against the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Cubs now have 33 players on their active roster.

A right-handed batter and fielder who has played in all or part of seven major league seasons, Taguchi signed a minor league deal with Chicago in January of this year. He went on to hit .248 (64-for-258) with eight doubles, a triple, four homers and 29 RBI in 85 contests for Iowa, seeing time at all three outfield positions. He was on the disabled list, May 1-June 1, with a left calf strain but responded by hitting .319 (22-for-69) in 24 June contests.

Taguchi, 40, is a career .279 hitter (379-for-1,358) in 666 major league contests with St. Louis (2002-2007) and Philadelphia (2008), having won World Championships with the Cardinals in 2006 and the Phillies last season. He owns a .977 career fielding percentage in 273 games in left field, 226 in center field, 124 in right field and three at second base.
