Two cleaning crew members charged with theft
Two Aurora residents, both members of an overnight cleaning crew working at a Naperville Kmart, have been charged with retail theft, police said Monday.
Naperville police said Carmen Valenzuela-Santillan, 34, of 104 N. Lancaster Ave., and Miguel Quiros, 47, of 108 N. Union St., were arrested over the weekend.
Police said the investigation began Sept. 12 when officials at the Kmart at 1199 E. Ogden Ave. contacted them about a theft investigation involving a cleaning crew in which more than $10,000 worth of items allegedly had been taken.
Investigators conducted a surveillance on Sept. 13 and said they spotted Valenzuela-Santillan placing stolen items into bags around 5 a.m. Police took the woman into custody and transported her to the city's detention facility.
As the probe continued, police said they identified a second crew member, Quiros, as a suspect. Naperville and Aurora police searched his residence and said they recovered stolen Kmart merchandise.
Police said they also searched Valenzuela-Santillan's residence and recovered more stolen merchandise.
Both suspects were taken to DuPage County jail to appear in bond court. The investigation is continuing.
