Trial starts for Lombard man accused of terrorizing pregnant girlfriend

Jury selection began Monday for a 31-year-old Lombard man accused of breaking into his pregnant ex-girlfriend's apartment on Valentine's Day and holding a gun to her head.

Six more members of the jury remain to be selected before the trial can begin. DuPage County Circuit Court Judge John Kinsella told potential jurors that the trial is expected to last one day and should begin Tuesday. The ex-girlfriend and a Lombard police detective are the only witnesses expected to testify at the trial.

Ronald Bosley is charged with a litany of crimes related to the break-in, including unlawful restraint, home invasion, burglary, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Lombard Police Deputy Chief Dane Cuny said Bosley was arrested Feb. 14 after his ex-girlfriend's relatives called police fearing for the woman's safety.

Cuny said Bosley arrived at the woman's apartment about 7 p.m. and kicked in the door. Bosley and the woman had been arguing on the phone before his arrival and she told him not to come over, according to a police report. The woman told detectives Bosley broke into the apartment and pointed a "chrome-handled" gun at her head. Bosley allowed the woman to call her family and then disabled the phones in the apartment, Cuny said.

The family members told police the woman sounded strange and asked them to investigate. Police arrived at 7:11 p.m., but Bosley had fled, Cuny said.

He was located after a brief chase on the nearby Great Western Trail, Cuny said. A handgun was recovered near the area where police first spotted Bosley. He has been in custody at the county jail in Wheaton since his arrestand is being held in lieu of a $300,000 bond.
