Police say man performed lewd acts on Webcam

A 30-year-old Carpentersville man was arrested after police said he performed sex acts in front of a Webcam for what he thought was a 14-year-old girl, the Cook County sheriff's police child exploitation unit said Tuesday.

What Nathan E. Thurber, of the 6200 block of Providence Drive, didn't know was that the series of online conversations were with a detective from the sheriff's police, officials said. Thurber was charged with transmitting harmful materials to a minor, a class 4 felony, police said. He was arrested last week at his place of business in Elgin, where police say he had been having the online chats and using the Webcam.

Thurber is free on $25,000 bond and is due in court Tuesday in Maywood.
