Grayslake C. soccer team in autism benefit

The Grayslake Central High School Boys' Soccer program participated in the 5K Rally for Autism Aug. 15, to support a great cause. The boys learned a lot about giving back to the community and they did it as a team. The student-athletes and coaches supported one another and, more importantly, supported those affected by autism by participating in the rally.

According to head coach, Mr. Mike McCaulou, "The team cohesiveness was outstanding and the team is on its way to become a family."

The Grayslake Central Team had several players and a coach that placed in the race. Teacher and coach, Shanna Piggott, won the overall female race with a time of less than 20:30. Jose Roman, student, placed fourth overall in the entire race with a time of 17:47, which is very impressive considering the race had over 400 runners competing. Roman placed second overall in his age group as well, while Asa Goldsmith placed third overall in his age group (15-19 yrs old). Phillip Longenecker won the overall race for his age group (14 yrs. old).

"The Rams from Grayslake Central really made us proud on Saturday," added McCaulou.

The Rally for Autism event was hosted by the Northeast Illinois Chapter of the Autism Society of America (ASA). ASA and its chapters are a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Proceeds from the Seventh Annual Rally For Autism will fund research, provide direct support to families affected by autism, assist other nonprofit organizations which serve the autism community and raise awareness of autism.
