Ind. track quarantines 59 horses in illness worry
ANDERSON, Ind. -- Fifty-nine horses have been quarantined because of a suspected contagious infection at central Indiana's Hoosier Park race track.
Hoosier Park officials put the horses in quarantine Saturday after one thoroughbred within the stable began exhibiting signs of streptococcus equi, or strangles. They say it is a contagious bacterial disease common in horses that can be life-threatening.
All 59 horses will remain quarantined at the Anderson track until test results are available.
Hoosier Park did not say whether the quarantine would cause changes in its racing schedule. Its next live races are scheduled for Wednesday.
