Surely state police can find a better way
It must be Labor Day again because the small, low-flying plane is buzzing our house and neighborhood over Palatine.
Every year is the same - for more that six hours each Labor Day, the state police fly a plane in small, low circles trying to catch speeders on Route 53. The complete circle of the plane directly over our house takes about 11/2 minutes.
The state police say they are protecting us, but we say they are fundraising. If they were interested in safety, wouldn't they do this more often and not just on Labor Day? If it was cost effective, wouldn't they be out at rush hour when there is more traffic? This is a pony show for their balance sheets.
We have contacted the FAA at O'Hare, the State Police, and our local government. Nothing happens. This is an issue where the police have decided to do something and no one has a say in the plan at all.
It is a disgrace that our national holiday is ruined in this way every year in the name of fundraising for the coffers of the state police. How much do they spend in air fuel for this day? The traffic on the road is light today, so why do it now? This is a disgrace and our politicians are unwilling to stand up to the police and protect our neighborhoods.
