U of I Faculty Senate won't seek ouster of university leadership

URBANA -- The University of Illinois Faculty Senate may drop the idea of seeking the ouster of two university officials.

The Senate was supposed to vote Monday afternoon on a nonbinding resolution calling for the replacement of President B. Joseph White and Chancellor Richard Herman.

But the chairwoman of the Faculty Senate now says that resolution is being dropped. Instead, the Senate will consider calling for a review of the school's leadership.

Chairwoman Joyce Tolliver said she and other Senate leaders decided to switch gears after meeting with the university's new trustees.

The leadership debate was prompted by revelations that the University of Illinois gave special consideration to the admissions applications of students with political connection.
