Johnsburg rolls over Dundee-Crown

Dundee-Crown and coach Mike Davis entered Friday's contest against host Johnsburg determined to defend the run.

Last week the Chargers allowed 234 yards in a loss to Streamwood.

D-C's plan worked-for a quarter.

With the game knotted at 7-7 at the end of the first quarter, Johnsburg (3-0) exploded for 28 points in the second quarter en route to a decisive 55-7 Fox Valley Conference crossover victory.

Junior quarterback George Bielis (9-for-15, 124 yards) threw for 3 touchdowns in the second quarter and Brandon Taylor scored on a 2-yard burst one play after a Charger fumble giving the Skyhawks a commanding 35-7 halftime advantage.

"They have a very good quarterback, a good running back, and a good tight end , wide receiver," said Davis. "You pick one and the other one can hurt you, they all hurt us eventually."

Special teams helped set up Johnsburg first two scores. C. J. Fiedorowicz returned the opening kickoff 80 yards and Justin Peete followed with a 9 yard scoring run.

Peete then returned a punt 28 yards early in the second quarter and two plays later Bielis found Fiedorwicz (4 catches, 62 yards) for the first of his two touchdowns on 27 yard pass.

"Special teams have been killing us all year," added Davis of D-C, which also had two bad snaps on punts that resulted in scores. "You do that and you just kill yourself."

Nick Torres started at quarterback in place of Tanner Kotlan, who was sidelined for one game due to a school decision.

Torres looked comfortable finding Danny Sharp on the Chargers second possession for an 82-yard score tying the score at 7-7 with 8:34 remaining in the first quarter

Torres (11-for-29, 152 yards), was given only one day notice on his starting assignment, had Charger moving again entering the second quarter, but a fumble halted D-C march at the Johnsburg's 34-yard line.

"As soon as they started picking it up, we just backed down," said Torres whose team had 5 turnovers for the night. "The first quarter we had a couple of good drives, they started driving on us and we just backed down."

Thomas Kinney also had a big night for the Skyhawks converting on 43 yard and 24 yard field goal and also catching a 30-yard touchdown pass.

Sharp had 59 yards on 9 carries and also 4 receptions for 102 yards and one score for Dundee-Crown.
