Aurora Christian denies Chicago Christian
Aurora Christian 20, Chicago Christian 15: Aurora Christian (2-1, 1-0) won its Suburban Christian Conference football debut when Grayson Roberts teamed up with Sheldon Magee on a 61-yard touchdown pass to defeat host Chicago Christian (1-2, 0-1).
A defensive stop on third-and-short and then Dean Griffing's tackle for loss on fourth down from Aurora Christian's 45-yard line allowed the Eagles to run out the clock.
Magee caught 9 passes for 268 yards with a 73-yard touchdown catch for the Eagles' first score. His brother, John Magee, ran 21 times for 215 yards. With 27 seconds left in the first half, against Chicago Christian's three-man front John Magee broke a simple dive play 75 yards for a touchdown to give Aurora Christian a 14-12 halftime lead.
Roberts completed 10 of 23 passes for 275 yards. Linebacker David Benson had an interception for the Eagles.
"We didn't play a real good first half, but defensively we played well, physically," said David Beebe, Aurora Christian defensive coordinator. "The second half we started running strong and throwing the ball better."
