No reason to attack Cardinal Bernardin

I have always had a great respect for Chuck Goudie's views even when his opinions did not conform with mine. But his column on Monday, Aug. 10 hit a new low in painting with broad black brush marks against the Catholic Church. His remarks are nothing short of character assassination.

The Catholic Church has done more with its Virtus program than any others to redress and repair the terrible wrongs of the smallest percentage of its members than any other organization in the world.

His final statement that "Cardinal Bernardin saw life as a seamless garment where human existence was wrapped in purity and blessedness from conception to death" and his wish that "He was still alive so I could ask him where the seam was ripped and why so many young lives were left hanging on a thread" was a vicious attack against a most holy and humble man. I know Cardinal Bernardin has already forgiven him from the grave just as he forgave the false accusations of those against him before his untimely death.
