How can you change the word of God?

If the Bible is supposed to be the true words of God, as asserted by Christians who quote some of those words as a justification for being anti-gay marriage, anti-abortion, anti-just-about anything they don't approve of, how in the name of common sense do the conservative evangelicals justify changing those words by revising the best-selling Bible (The New International Version)?

This just goes to prove what I've been saying all along - the Bible may be inspired by God, but it was written by man and changed by man any time man saw fit, including but not limited to Constantine, writers of Protestant Bibles that left out an entire book that is still in the Catholic Bible, and now by the members of a Christian ministry.

If Christians truly believed that the words of the Bible are the true words of God, they wouldn't dare change them and so invite the wrath of God, now would they? Does anyone detect a bit of hypocrisy here?
