Five injured in accident on Tri-State

Five people were taken to hospitals after a three-vehicle accident at 5:42 p.m. Friday on the southbound Tri-State Tollway in Rosemont.

None of the injuries appeared life-threatening, said Sgt. Susan Ewald of the Illinois State Police's District 15.

Harold Chaet, 80, of Skokie appeared the most seriously injured and was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where he was in the intensive care unit. He was also cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, Ewald said.

The car Chaet was driving hit the other two cars, which were side by side in two lanes, said Ewald.

One of the other cars, driven by Laurie Price of Chicago, went onto the shoulder and struck an electric arrow sign signaling roadwork. The third car was driven by Tishly Herrington of downstate Macomb.

Three lanes of the five-lane tollway were closed for about 45 minutes.
