Open house at Hubble:
Residents hoping to get a peek at the new Hubble Middle School in Warrenville will have their chance during an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, at the school, 3S600 Herrick Road. The event, sponsored by Wheaton Warrenville Unit District 200, begins with a short program at 2 p.m. in the auditorium and includes tours and refreshments. The school opened in August.
Fire department gets grant:
A federal grant soon will boost Carol Stream's fire prevention education program. A spokesman said the $19,800 will allow the department to buy an interactive model home for kids that illustrates fire hazards. Public Information Officer Don Lay said the money has not been received yet but is expected "any day now." Sparky's Hazard House will travel with firefighters when they go to area schools to discuss fire safety.
Lombard plans recycling:
Lombard's annual Recycling Extravaganza is from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Sept. 19 at village hall, 255 E. Wilson Ave. For a complete list of what will be accepted and what won't, visit www.villageoflombard.org or call (630) 620-5740. In addition, the Glenbard East High School Ecology Club will collect indoor and outdoor flower pots (no plastic) and the Rotary Club will collect bikes, crutches, nonmotorized wheelchairs and gently used shoes.
Lisle brush collection:
Lisle will offer its last residential brush pickup program of the year beginning Monday, Sept. 14. Bundled branches will be collected the week of Sept. 14 in the area north of the Burlington Northern tracks; the week of Sept. 21 between the tracks and Maple Avenue; and the week of Sept. 28 south of Maple Avenue. Branches should be stacked neatly on the front parkway by 7 a.m. the Monday of the scheduled collection. For details, visit www.villageoflisle.org.
Cultural classes offered:
The Naperville Cultural Center has teamed with the Russian Center for Language and Culture and the Center for Immigrant Resources and Community Arts to offer fall classes at 55 S.
