Burglary victims try to identify stolen jewels

MOLINE -- Quad Cities residents who had their homes burglarized while they were attending funerals have been visiting the Moline Police Department this week to see if any of the seized jewelry held there belongs to them.

But with gold at $1,000 an ounce, their rings and necklaces are unrecognizable. The gold has been melted and the stones left behind.

Jackie Parmentier lost her husband of 52 years in May and came home from his funeral to find her house had been burglarized. Parmientier says she saw a lot of stones at the police station, but could not identify them without their settings.

Police say they believe the burglaries are the work of a mother-and-son team. They say 40-year old Glen Squires and his 66-year-old mother, Judith, remain in jail on one count of attempted burglary.
