Madigan, Hynes to appear before cemetery panel

The task force charged with looking at the state's regulation of cemeteries after desecration allegations at a historic Illinois cemetery is scheduled to hear from two state officials.

Attorney General Lisa Madigan and Comptroller Dan Hynes are scheduled to speak Thursday to the Cemetery Oversight Task Force in Chicago.

Gov. Pat Quinn formed the panel in July after former workers at Burr Oak Cemetery in Alsip were accused of digging up hundreds of bodies and reselling burial plots in a moneymaking scheme.

The four defendants have pleaded not guilty to charges, including desecration of human remains and theft.

The panel plans to meet again next week to adopt a report with recommendations it will submit to Quinn.
