'Jersey Boys' ending 'temporary' Chicago run in January
After 951 performances, the Chicago production of "Jersey Boys" will conclude its record-breaking run on Jan. 10, 2010.
The 2006 Tony Award-winning, rags-to-riches-to-wreckage-to-reconciliation tale about Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons opened at Chicago's Bank of America Theatre in October 2007. By the time its extended run concludes, the exuberant, highly polished jukebox musical will have played to more than one million people.
"We came to Chicago for a visit, and the Windy City became our home away from home for what will be over two years," said producer Michael David in a prepared statement issued late Tuesday. "Such conversions happen rarely in the theater and we are proud to have made Chicago home for as long as we have."
Theatergoers won't want for a musical powerhouse for long. Both "Billy Elliot" and "Shrek the Musical" are scheduled to open in Chicago next spring.
Tickets "Jersey Boys" final performances go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday. Tickets are available online at broadwayinchicago.com, by phone at (800) 775-2000 and through Ticketmaster.
