Dancers Karina Smirnoff, Maksim Chmerkovskiy split

LOS ANGELES -- "Dancing With the Stars" pros Karina Smirnoff and Maksim Chmerkovskiy are no longer in step with one another.
Susan Madore, a publicist for Chmerkovskiy, says the two professional dancers broke off their engagement over the weekend.
Smirnoff and Chmerkovskiy will continue to appear on "Dancing With the Stars." Smirnoff is paired with Aaron Carter and Chmerkovskiy with Debi Mazar for the upcoming season, which premieres Sept. 21.
The two pro dancers had postponed planning their wedding to appear in "Burn the Floor" on Broadway over the summer. They wrapped their roles last month.
