Sox Academy in Lisle opens baseball glove drive

The Bulls/White Sox Training Academy has launched a drive to collect new and used baseball gloves for disadvantaged Chicago players in the Inner City Youth Baseball League.

Baseball gloves can be dropped off at the Training Academy in Lisle, or any of the satellite facilities in LaGrange, Tinley Park or Schererville, Ind.

Every person donating a glove will receive a voucher for 15 minutes of free hitting and a chance to win autographed White Sox merchandise. The individual who donates the most gloves at each of the four locations will receive an autographed Gordon Beckham jersey, which will be presented personally to the four winners by Beckham prior to the Sept. 26 game against the Detroit Tigers.

The collection drive will support the Baseball Tomorrow Fund, an ongoing commitment from Major League Baseball, its clubs and players to increase opportunities for participation in baseball and softball. Donated gloves will go to the Inner Youth Baseball League, which provides free, safe and structured recreational baseball programming to disadvantaged Chicago youth. The ICYB league is sponsored annually by White Sox Charities.

Glove donors should check bullssoxacademy.com for directions to each facility and glove drop-off hours. The collection drive ends Sept. 20.
