Cops: Knife-wielding teen arrested at St. Charles North football game
Police say a Bartlett teen threatened spectators with a pocket knife at Friday's St. Charles North High School football game against McHenry.
Kyle R. Leighty, 17, of the 100 block of Hillcrest Lane, was arrested about 9 p.m. and charged with unlawful use of a weapon at the school stadium, 255 Red Gate Road, police said Tuesday.
The incident was reported after Leighty and several friends argued with a group of students sitting in the stands. Police said an officer at the game saw Leighty pull out the knife and point it at the students while "shouting in an aggressive and taunting manner." The blade on the knife was a little more than 3 inches.
Leighty, who has no prior criminal history, was charged with a Class 4 felony because the incident took place within 1,000 feet of a school, police said. If convicted of the charge, he faces one to three years in prison or probation.
Leighty was released without bond and is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 16. His attorney could not immediately be reached for comment.
