Kudos to Rosemont for nixing poker
The Mayor of Rosemont, Bradley Stephens, is the first mayor to denounce video poker as a revenue source. After being vilified, slandered, and the victim of Illinois party politics, Rosemont shows what class it has by refusing to accept the most infiltrated form of gambling by the Mob. The state of Illinois, on two separate occasions, awarded the 10th casino license to Rosemont after lengthy and arduous background checks, only to have it maneuvered out of town by the Democrats who obviously were concerned that a Republican town would be able to prosper by this political perk.
Now after losing out on many billions of dollars in potential revenue that the Rosemont casino would have generated, the Democrats resort to legalizing video poker machines, knowing full well that this form of gambling has well-documented organized crime ties. Des Plaines hasn't even broken ground on the casino awarded to it.
Kudos to Mayor Brad Stephens, and the late Mayor Donald E. Stephens, for their stance in the face of adversity, and for denouncing any further consideration of a casino in Rosemont. Our town has always prospered (unlike the Democratically controlled rest of the state, or Cook County for that matter) and will continue to prosper without this obvious taint.
While we enjoy great leadership in Rosemont, I sadly point out that the same cannot be said of our state or county while in Democratic control.
Happy and proud to be a resident of Rosemont.
