Gay-bashing letter shouldn't have run

Just as Sue A. Smith from Bloomingdale stated she was disappointed to see a gay wedding notice in the Aug. 25 Daily Herald, I was even more disappointed to see her comment actually posted in Fence Post.

What a shame that Sue probably just alienated a family member, friend or neighbor with her intolerant views. I understand free speech but taking the time to document one's disapproval of same-sex marriage is one step away from a hate crime.

I live in a culture that celebrates others based on respect, individuality, and love. I hope that the Fence Post can consider promoting more understanding comments in the future.
