SIU logs its first case of swine flu
CARBONDALE -- Health officials at Southern Illinois University say the Carbondale school has logged its first case of swine flu.
The university says the infected 20-year-old sophomore lives off campus, doesn't have roommates and has been advised to quarantine himself to his house until the symptoms pass.
As director of the school's student health center, Dr. Ted Grace says the flu has surfaced at other schools, making it only a matter of time before the illness turned up in Carbondale.
Grace says the school has set up several hand-sanitation stations and will supply students with surgical masks. There also are two campus outreach sites where students can get thermometers, masks and even a note excusing them from class.
