Mother charged after 10-year-old found naked

DANVILLE, Ill. -- Vermilion County authorities have arraigned the mother of an injured 10-year-old girl who was found riding her bicycle naked several blocks from the family home in Danville.

At the arraignment Thursday, 44-year-old Deanna Wharwood was named on a charge of aggravated battery of a child and two misdemeanor counts of domestic battery.

Danville police say received a call Monday evening about the naked girl and found her on her bicycle. Officers say she told them she had had a fight with her mother.

The girl was taken to Provena United Samaritans Medical Center where she was treated and released. She was then put in protective custody of the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.

Wharwood was later arrested at her home.
