NIU Coach Jerry Kill gets contract extension
DEKALB -- Northern Illinois University has given head football coach Jerry Kill a two-year extension of his contract, through the 2015 season.
Kill finished his first season as head coach by leading the 2008 Huskies to a four-game improvement in the win column and to an Independence Bowl appearance.
Athletics director Jeff Compher said Thursday the contract extension was a way of rewarding a man who is putting his heart and soul into the Huskies' football program.
Kill was the 2004 Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year who also won the 2007 Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year Award during his previous coaching stop at Southern Illinois University. He said he was appreciative of the confidence shown by Compher and university officials in extending his contract.
The Huskies open the 2009 campaign versus the Wisconsin Badgers Saturday night in Madison.
