Lake County Board jumping into health care reform fray
As politicians, pundits, activists and citizens vociferously debate health care reform, a group of Lake County Board members today will consider whether the panel should endorse President Obama's controversial proposal.
The board's health and community services committee is slated to discuss a resolution that would support the principles of the Obama plan, which has divided the country and been the focus of much media attention this summer.
The resolution is being pushed by the National Association of Black County Officials, according to Lake County documents.
Similar resolutions have been considered or adopted by government agencies and organizations across the country, including the U.S. Conference of Mayors, and the cities of Durham, N.C., Kansas City, Mo., and Miami.
The wording of the various resolutions have varied, but they typically have addressed the millions of people who are underinsured or uninsured and the rising costs of health care. They also support the tenets of the Obama plan and call for Congress to enact the reform legislation.
The committee meeting is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the county government center, 18 N. County St., Waukegan. It is open to the public.
