"Million Dollar Quartet" to make music on Broadway
Producers of the hit Chicago production of "Million Dollar Quartet" announced Tuesday that the show is headed to Broadway in spring 2010.
Featuring a script by Floyd Mutrux and Colin Escott, "Million Dollar Quartet" is a fictionalized account of the real-life Sun Records recording session that teamed Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley together on Dec. 4, 1956.
"Million Dollar Quartet" first opened to rapturous reviews in October 2008 at the Goodman Theatre's Owen Theatre. "Million Dollar Quartet" then quickly transferred to the Apollo Theatre, where its run has been continuously extended.
The Daily Herald's Barbara Vitello raved that the show "reflects early rock 'n' roll's unfettered abandon, its absolute defiance and the pure joy music can provide."
"Million Dollar Quartet" director Eric Schaeffer has been named for the New York transfer, but no other casting has been announced. "Million Dollar Quartet" is set to close at the Apollo Theatre on Saturday, Oct. 31.
