Guillen: Anybody but Contreras

MINNEAPOLIS - White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said he had to be "convinced" to give Jose Contreras another chance to start last Saturday against New York at Yankee Stadium.

Contreras promptly delivered another dud, giving up 8 runs (6 earned) on 9 hits and 2 walks in 31/3 innings.

The Sox lost 10-0, and Contreras dropped to 5-13 (5.42 ERA).

Again in need of a starter for Thursday's makeup game against the Cubs at Wrigley Field, Guillen said he'd rather call on pitching coach Don Cooper than Contreras.

"I don't care who is on the mound, but it's not going to be Jose," Guillen said. "They convinced me last time to get Jose back on the mound, and I regret making that decision. They're not going to convince me again."

Rosters can expand today, and the White Sox are bringing Carlos Torres back from Class AAA Charlotte. He is likely to start against the Cubs.

Come on up: In addition to Carlos Torres, catcher Tyler Flowers is coming up from Charlotte today to join the White Sox, as are second baseman Chris Getz and outfielder Dewayne Wise.

Getz (oblique) and Wise (shoulder) are on the disabled list, and they've been rehabbing with Charlotte.

Third baseman Josh Fields is scheduled to play for Team USA in the upcoming World Cup, so he won't be back with the White Sox.

Tear it down: Manager Ozzie Guillen is no fan of the Metrodome, which is the Twins' home for 14 more games.

Next season, Minnesota is moving to Target Field, an open-air stadium.

"There aren't a lot of good memories in this place for me," Guillen said. "Even when I was playing, there were no good memories. I'm glad this is the last time we come to this place."

Not so fast: Joe Crede is on the disabled list with more back trouble, but the Twins' third baseman refuted a report he may retire at the end of the season.

"I don't know where they based that off of," said Crede, who played for the White Sox from 2000-08. "I know I have more years in me left. I still love the game. I have no plans of retiring."
