Summarizing the Gates, Crowley case

So much has been said about the race of Professor Gates and Officer Crowley. Not enough has been said about the police protective role in this event.

The police were called to investigate and protect Professor Gates' house. Had a real burglar been trying to invade his house, Professor Gates would have been grateful for the police protection.

Perhaps he should be thankful they arrived quickly to check it out. Instead his belligerence gave credence to their suspicion that he was an intruder.
