Invest in solutions, not Band-Aids

I'm deeply concerned about the bankruptcy of the Highway Trust Fund and the bailout patch that Congress has passed, and about how it will affect transportation here locally. The upcoming bankruptcy of the Highway Trust Fund underscores how desperately we need to rethink transportation in this country.

The entire transportation system is broken - getting around is increasingly expensive and difficult - and this bankruptcy shows that our funding mechanisms aren't working either.

Americans are tired of bailing out a broken system. We need long-term solutions, not just a quick fix.

We can't let Congress get away with putting on Band-Aid on highways and not addressing the dire need for building a safer, cleaner, better 21st century system.
