Man gets prison for twice violating protection order

A Kenosha man was sentenced to 2½ years in prison Monday for violating an order of protection twice in the same day.

Lake County Assistant State's Attorney Victor O'Block said Shane Sparks, 38, was charged with felony violation of an order of protection by police in Mundelein and Libertyville.

O'Block said a 38-year-old Mundelein woman had a court order barring Sparks from coming within 500 feet of her or contacting her in any way.

However, Sparks called the woman at her Mundelein home Jan. 1, and the woman called police, O'Block said. The woman called Libertyville police later that day, O'Block said, when she saw Sparks driving past her place of employment in that village.

Sparks has been held in the Lake County jail on $100,000 bond since his arrest.

O'Block said Sparks could have faced up to three years in prison on each violation if he had been convicted after a trial.
