Peavy's sore elbow to be examined today

After experiencing some soreness near his right elbow and leaving his rehab start Saturday night earlier than planned, right-hander Jake Peavy will travel to Minnesota today to be evaluated and X-rayed by the White Sox' training staff.

Peavy, who was hoping to throw 100 pitches in his start for Triple A Charlotte on Saturday, instead lasted just 3 1/3 innings, tossing 68 pitches.

"He said he hadn't felt this before, and he said he didn't want to take any chances," Sox pitching coach Don Cooper told mlb.com. "He didn't feel like he could get the extension at that time and pulled himself out and said that he had enough. I think that's a smart move. Once we get our hands on him and get him here, we'll see where he's at."

Peavy allowed 2 runs, 4 hits, 1 walk and struck out four in his short outing for the Knights. Now the question is not only when Peavy will make his debut with the Sox but if it will be this season or not.

"I want this guy to pitch because every day they're asking me about it," Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said. "And every day, I don't have any answer.

"If this guy is clean [physically], we have five more days; I don't see why not pitch him."
