Looking for the real truth on health care
As many of your readers are probably aware, the White House is "very concerned" about what they say are lies being spread about their Health Care Reform plan, and have set up a way (flag@whitehouse.gov) for citizens to report instances of this. Being a concerned citizen myself, and in the interest of my fellow citizens, I sent the following:
I'm very concerned about some of the distortions and outright lies that are being spread about the Health Care Reform bill, so I want to help. I'm aware of some instances of not telling the whole truth about The Plan, so I'm forwarding this information.
There are a couple of members of the U.S. House of Representatives who I believe are not being forthright with the public, namely Reps. Barney Frank and Jan Schakowsky. According to them, you are trying for a single-payer system, and Ms. Schakowsky seems to be bragging about your plan putting private health insurance companies out of business. Since you told us that's not what your plan would do, it follows they must be lying about it. You should probably investigate this.
Come to think of it, I saw Mr. Obama himself talking about those very things - that his goal is a single-payer system and that he ultimately wants the private health insurance system replaced. So it seems Mr. Obama is lying about his own plan. I think it would be wise to investigate him also.
Of course, it's entirely possible that what Mr. Frank, Ms. Schakowsky and Mr. Obama were actually doing was revealing what their true intentions are - if that's the case, then they're really not lying and you can just ignore this e-mail. But if there's some possibility they may be lying, I think a little investigating is in order.
