Bobbits, Palatine handle Lake Forest

Cody Bobbit came up with a big time offensive performance, and the defense was good when it had to be.

Combinded, the Pirates (1-0) avenged last year's loss to Lake Forest with a 38-31 thriller in Palatine.

Bobbit scored 2 rushing touchdowns on runs of 20 and 15 yards to garner 84 yards in 18 attempts. Bobbit completed 16 of 28 passes for 203 yards and 3 touchdowns in the nonconference win.

"This was a true team effort," Bobbit said. " It was an exciting game. To play the game with my two brothers (Chad and Jesse) was just great. Ween we had to come up with those two first downs to finish the game and keep the ball away from them was clutch."

Lake Forest (0-1) was its own worst enemy, comitting 5 turnovers including 4 interceptions by Thomas Rees. Reese finished 16 for 34 for 134 yards with 1 passing and 1 rushing touchdown.

The Scouts led 17-7 in the second quarter on on 2 touchdowns by T. J. Jackson, and a 28-yard field goal by Andrew O'Neill.

Jackson finished with 251 rusning yards in 19 attempts.

Bobbit conected on a 16 yd TD pass to Dan Haze to cut the lead to 17-14 with 4:04 left in the half.

Haze then recovered a Scout fumble at the Lake Forest 31 following the kickoff.

Bobbit put Palatine ahead for good on a 20 yard run with 3:00 left in the half. Mike Luschen followed with a 40-yard field goal as the half ended for a 24-17 lead.

"You can't commit 5 turnovers and win," said Lake Forest coach Chuck Spanoli. "They turned 3 of those turnovers into scores."

"I was proud of the defense," said Palatine coach Tyler Donnelly. "They came up wit some big plays when they needed to. Cody had a excellent game and I give credit to the players. They prepared real well for this game."
