S. Elgin offense stymies Whips
After being shut out by Wheaton North in its last game, South Elgin found its offensive rhythm against Hampshire in the Burlington Central boys soccer tournament Saturday.
Dan Bohlin had a hat trick, and Mike Kozielek, Bart Mazurek and Bryan Irwin added goals for the Storm.
Ismael Morales scored for Hampshire.
South Elgin controlled the ball almost from the beginning, but couldn't get on the board until Bohlin converted midway through the first half, scoring from 20 yards out into the corner of the net.
Kozielek made it 2-0 about 5 minutes later on a 2-on-1 breakaway. Bohlin made it 3-0 before halftime.
It could have been worse, as Kozielek had several good opportunities, but was stopped by Hampshire goalkeeper Marcus Quick.
"We passed the ball well and got good looks," said Bohlin. "It was a very good win for us."
Hampshire got on the board early in the second half as Morales took a pass from Kyle Bracke and scored from close range.
The Whip-Purs had a couple of chances to score again and could have changed the complexion of the game, but the Storm responded and put the game away.
Mazurek scored on a breakaway with in the 61st minute to make it 4-1. Irwin and Bohlin added late goals for the Storm.
