Congress should try out health plan
In my opinion, the Daily Herald's editorial to Sen. Dick Durbin was right on target. To me, Sen. Durbin is an egocentric Illinois politician who focuses on issues that are politically correct to ensure re-election opportunities.
It is true that Senator Durbin cares about health care. But when it comes to dealing with the people of Illinois individually, he is apathetic and indifferent. I have attempted to contact Senator Durbin and Senator Burris many times with questions and comments about issues that I feel are detrimental to the stability and unity of our Nation.
Senator Durbin has only responded once with an e mail. That e mail never addressed my question. On the other hand, I may not always agree with his position, but Senator Burris responds to every e mail and phone call I make.
So this is my idea: Senator Durbin, who cares so much about health care, should make this proposal to his constituents in Washington. The U.S. senators and their families should try out the new health care plan for a couple of years and then report back to the people. If Congress continues to support the plan, then members of Congress could give up their elaborate pensions to fund it.
