Try out for 'America's Next Top Model' in Chicago
The CW's "America's Next Top Model" comes to Chicago looking for contestants in its next go-round from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, at the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place, 2233 S. Martin Luther King Drive, Chicago. Aspiring models must be from 18 to 27 years old and at least 5-feet-7. They should also bring a completed application for the 14th season found at the cwtv.com Web site. Of course, first "Top Model" has to get through its upcoming season starting Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. on WGN Channel 9.
Oil of olé!
Women have been fighting for years for equality in the male-dominated arena of bullfighting, and the struggle still goes on. The PBS series "P.O.V." looks at female toreadors Maripaz Vega and Eva Florencia in "Ella Es El Matador" (which translates as "She Is the Matador") at 10 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, on WTTW Channel 11. Written, produced and directed by Gemma Cubero and Celeste Carrasco, it's a co-presentation with Latino Public Broadcasting.
Fall season preview
Next week is September, which means, like leaves falling from the trees, the upcoming formal start of the fall TV season. CBS gets a jump on promotion with the "CBS Fall Preview" at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, on WBBM Channel 2. The cast of "How I Met Your Mother" plays host to the special.
He's back
If the original film "The Terminator" was sheer genius in projecting a time-travel action story involving a war between man and machine, the sequel "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" was almost as brilliant in converting Arnold Schwarzenegger's title villain into not only a hero, but the only father figure who makes sense in an insane world. It's at 6 p.m. Friday -- rerun at 9 -- on Bravo.
