Fire's Soumare leaves for France tonight to join Boulogne

Bakary Soumare's transfer to French club Boulogne from the Fire has been completed pending a physical.

Soumare, who leaves for France tonight, signed a four-year contract worth "around $2 million," according to agent Diego Gutierrez.

"It's a very good package for him," Gutierrez said, adding the transfer was the best possible outcome for everyone involved.

Soumare has not played for the Fire since an Aug. 9 halftime argument at Houston with coach Denis Hamlett that turned physical.

Soumare was born in Mali but raised in France.

"This will allow Baky to focus on what he does best, and that's playing," Gutierrez said. "He has peace of mind that now he will be next to his family in France."
