Stolen Arlington Heights car stopped in Indiana; driver arrested
An Elk Grove Village man wanted for allegedly stealing a car in Arlington Heights was arrested in Indiana Monday, police officials said.
Shannon P. Flechler, 24, 900 block of Charlela Lane in Elk Grove Village, was arrested following a traffic stop by Indiana State Troopers at about 9:30 am. Monday, said Sgt. Mike Hernandez of the Arlington Heights Police Department.
Hernandez said Arlington Heights Police were called to investigate a stolen car from the 600 block of Casper Drive Monday morning, Hernandez said.
He said Flechler broke into the first of two vehicles located in the driveway of the residence and found a set of keys in the center console. He used those keys to open the second car and take it, Hernandez said.
Hernandez said Arlington Heights officers entered the car into the Law Enforcement Automated Database System (LEADS).
From there, he said an Indiana State Trooper was monitoring traffic on I-65 when the stolen car passed by driving faster than the posted speed limit.
When the trooper made a traffic stop, the driver could not produce a valid license, but identified himself as Flechler.
The trooper ran the name and car through the system and learned the vehicle was reported stolen out of Arlington Heights.
Flechler was arrested and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail, Hernandez said, and has been charged with being in possession of a stolen vehicle. No bond information is available for Flechler, Hernandez said.
