Burt's 'pair tree' column appreciated
We would like to sincerely thank Burt Constable and the Daily Herald for covering the story of the "Pair Tree" on Aug. 8, 2009.
On Saturday, Aug. 8, the 3-Day Breast Cancer Walk came right by our front door. In our front yard we hosted a cheering station and displayed more than 60 soft sculpture breasts that had been sponsored by as many friends, neighbors, relatives and business owners. The response was overwhelmingly positive.
In the middle of a recession, we were able to raise $2,000 in a matter of a few weeks. The money helped sponsor two walkers who were still trying to raise the minimum $2,300 required to be a walker. Ninety percent of the walkers that day took pictures with, or of, The "Pair" Tree. It lifted their spirits, and their smiles lifted ours.
Because the Herald covered our story many people drove by our home during the day of the walk and countless others across the country have read our story, all bringing attention and awareness to raising money for a cure.
The story captured the attention of women in Arizona and California where the "Pair Tree" will be headed next to raise money for the disease that strikes 1 out of 8 women.
We are sincerely grateful for you printing our story and bringing awareness to the need for a cure.
