Arlington sculpture now outside NYC

Dear Arlington Heights residents: You will notice that the sculpture that was on the corner of Eastman and Arlington Heights Road has left town.

The sculpture, called "Inside Elevation" by Canadian sculptor Royden Mills, is now sited as a permanent feature at the renowned "Grounds for Sculpture" south of New York City.

It had enjoyed a beautiful location in Arlington Heights for more than two years and many positive comments from local residents seemed to indicate that the people in town were enjoying it.

It is unfortunate that there is not a budget and attitude to collect and keep the work of internationally recognized artists when the opportunity comes along. The sculptor paid the entire shipping costs out of his own pocket with no fees or stipend of any kind.

We hope that the residents of Arlington Heights will enjoy seeing the piece when they travel to New York City and feel that they had a hand in the movement of this piece to Grounds for Sculpture. "Inside Elevation" is to be sited facing the beautiful restaurant where the more than 100,000 guests each year often stop to get a gourmet meal.

The sculptor wishes the people of Arlington Heights to know that their town has been forever sewn into the history of that sculpture and wishes them well with their future aspirations to build a sophisticated art collection for Arlington Heights.
