Work on Miller Road should be coming to a close

For those who had to reroute their travel plans when Carpentersville closed Miller Road from Huntley Road to Sleepy Hollow Road, the detour is open for traffic.

The road closure was part of a project to reconstruct Miller Road from Huntley Road to near Shenandoah Drive. The project includes a stacking lane in front of Liberty Elementary School on Miller Road to alleviate the traffic congestion before and after school hours.

It has taken more than five years to get the project off the ground, but village officials say the work should be done before school starts for the fall semester starts on Aug. 31.

Music fest: It should be a big weekend in Carpentersville with the inaugural Old Town Carpentersville Music Festival on Saturday and Sunday in Carpenter Park, at the corner of Maple and Lord avenues.

The two-day event will feature music, food and beer. Entry is free.

A Carpentersville company, Sargon Productions, is putting on the show and they promise it is going to be bigger and better than anything the village has ever seen. Jumbotron screens and plasmas television sets will keep festivalgoers in the middle of the celebration from any vantage point. Whether you're in the beer tent or seeking solace under a tree, you'll be able to see and hear everything.

There are dozens of local bands, food vendors, a kids zone, business expo, car show and other entertainers lined up.

The festival is free and is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday. Live music begins at noon each day.

Former Chicago Bears players will also be on hand Saturday and Sunday to sign autographs. Organizers have secured Steve "Mongo" McMichael, Darnell Autry and Fabien Bownes. Check the schedule at cmf09.com for more information and scheduled appearances.

If all goes well on the weekend, organizers and the village could make it an annual event, or possibly resurrect a popular festival that last entertained local residents more than a decade ago: Jamboree Days.
