Widow of slain pastor focusing on helping others

MARYVILLE -- The widow of a southwestern Illinois pastor gunned down during a Sunday sermon says she's learning to be a single parent and focusing on helping other victims of tragedy.

Forty-year-old Cindy Winters founded the nonprofit Grace and Hope Ministries this summer, after the death of her husband, Fred Winters.

Authorities say he was gunned down March 8 by 27-year-old Terry Sedlacek (SEHD'-lak) of Troy at the Maryville Baptist Church.

Sedlacek has no apparent connection to the church or to Winters.

A not guilty plea has been entered on Sedlacek's behalf.

Cindy Winters' nonprofit will administer a scholarship for seminary students and allow the public to share thoughts, resources and inspirational readings on its Web site.
