Planters needed to help with fall beautification efforts

The Geneva Beautification Committee is recruiting gardeners of all ages to join in the final planting of the season.

New volunteers should report to the corner of South Third and James Street, in front of the Geneva Post Office at 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 5. They will be given a garden location that could use their help. Volunteers who have already been assigned to a garden can report directly to their garden and begin planting the flowers that have been delivered to their area.

Volunteers are asked to bring garden gloves, pruning shears, rakes, brooms and trowels. Since the flowers enjoy a slight sprinkling of showers, the planting will continue unless there is a thunderstorm. If rain delays the planting, the rain date is at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 6. If you want to check the status of the planting, call Dorothy Flanagan at (630) 638-2475. All assistance is appreciated. Bring a neighbor, a friend or a family member.

Many businesses in Geneva and surrounding area have generously donated to help create beauty in the downtown for residents and visitors to enjoy.

Entirely a volunteer effort, the Geneva Beautification Committee consists of individuals, organizations and businesses that adopt, plant and maintain gardens in Geneva's business district. Students and Scouts looking for community service hours can volunteer and receive credit. For information on how to join, check the Web site at PlantGeneva.org or call Dorothy Flanagan at (630) 208-0279, evenings, or Sherri Weitl at (630) 232-7494, daytime.
