Railway work in Naperville:
The Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway is replacing deteriorated railroad ties along its Naperville-area tracks. The work is slated for completion the week of Aug. 31. The project requires the temporary removal of portions of fence along the rail line and until the fencing is restored, federal law requires train conductors to sound the train horns in areas that are typically designated as quiet zones. Residents in the vicinity of the BNSF Railway may hear more train horns than normal until the project is complete.
Lombard group holds sale:
The Lombard Service League holds a summer club garage sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at 305 E. Washington St., Lombard. Proceeds will be used to fund education scholarships. "One person's loss is another person's find," said Ruth Ann Enstrom, Lombard Service League president. "There is a nice variety of items to choose from at very reasonable prices."
Roselle Explorer awards:
Members of the Roselle Police Explorer Post 151 attended the 2009 Illinois Law Enforcement Explorers Conference on Aug. 3-8 in Springfield and earned several competition awards. Roselle Explorer Captain Mario Fearon and Explorer Sgts. Dan Wells and Joe Micholson took first place in rapid deployment and second place in evidence processing. Seeking new faces:
Lombard is seeking interested residents for its biannual community forum, a meeting of village officials and residents to provide information on issues and services, used to provide direction for the village's strategic plan. "We are looking for people who have an interest in local government, but who haven't had a chance yet to participate in the community forum," Village President William Mueller said. "We're looking for some fresh ideas and a new perspective." To volunteer, call the village manager's office at (630) 620-5712 or e-mail bauerc@villageoflombard.org.
