Solheim Cup captains select Friday's pairings

The pairings have been announced for the Solheim Cup four-ball matches Friday at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove.

Each match is worth 1 point in team play, with 4 points at stake in the morning rounds. New pairings will be selected for the afternoon matches, which will feature four foursomes in an alternative-shot competition with 4 points at stake. Along with the tee times, we've included a comment from U.S. captain Beth Daniel:

Match 1 (8:05 a.m)

Suzann Pettersen and Sophie Gustafson (Europe) vs. Paula Creamer and Cristie Kerr (USA)

Daniel's take: "They expressed a desire to play together and what better way to start the Solheim Cup than to have your top two Americans start it for you?"

Match 2 (8:20 a.m.)

Helen Alfredsson and Tania Elosegui (Europe) vs. Angela Stanford and Juli Inkster (USA)

Daniel's take: "It's a good pairing for Angela to be with Julie and vice versa. Angela was third in our points, She was one of the top people, and Juli is very steady and a very calming influence. Angela is very fiery but so is Juli. They'll both be fired up."

Match 3 (8:35 a.m.)

Laura Davies and Becky Brewerton (Europe) vs. Brittany Lang and Brittany Lincicome (USA)

Daniel's take: "The two Brittany's have played a lot of practice rounds together and they've known each other, played amateur golf and stuff like that together. They actually played really well together in practice rounds - and they both make a ton of birdies - so we thought they would be great for best ball."

Match 4 (8:50 a.m.)

Catriona Matthew and Maria Hjorth (Europe) vs. Morgan Pressel and Michelle Wie (USA)

Daniel's take: "Morgan and Michelle are very good friends. My thinking is Morgan's pretty fiery - she plays match play so well - I thought she'd be a great first pairing for Michelle."
